Alleston Family

Post by allicat2 »

Does anyone have any information on the Allestons? My grandfather, Charles Alleston was born in Bures Hamlet in 1869 - the son of George Alleston & Matilda Bray. George worked at Angel Yard as a Tanner. Does anyone have any information on Angel Yard and the tannery? His father - my gt gt grandfather was Henry Alliston (not sure whether spelling was different) and he married Maria Cook, born 1824. As far as I know they all came from Bures. Likewise his father William, born 1776 I think was married to Harriet Boggis (who was born 1812 at Lamarsh) but it could have been Caroline Gooch, born 1786. I know there are still quite a few Allestons in the Suffolk/n Essex area. Has anyone any information please? I think most of them were married at St Marys and were probably buried there.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you look on this web site there is a complete section on the Tannery. The "Angel Public House" was next door, again see the Public House page.
