I am the great grandson of John Pratt who was grocer and draper for about 20 years about 1879 to 1897.
I know its outside living memory but just wondering if anyone has any pics of the shop or reminisences or if there might be any descendants in the town.

Richard Pratt was the Relieving Officer and Registrar in Bures from 1840 until 1844
John Pratt registered as Grocer circa 1884 > 1892 ( yours may be a more accurate time span)

Thats really interesting.......
I must follow that up ... I was wondering why a shop in Bures cos I thought the family was from Wivenhoe but if Richard was a relation it might explain why.

My Grandmothers sister. Amy Mary Eves 1872-1951 was married to a Harry Pratt (dates I know not) but he could have been one of yours. Sometimes they have names by which they were known, which could relate to their given name. Sometimes however not at all.
