Kebell/Kebel/Keeble

Post by Dan »

I have traced my ancestry back to June 1584 with the burials of John Kebell, his wife Alice, and daughter Ellen in the graveyard at St.John the Baptist church at Mount Bures. John's father was also a John Kebell who was married to Margaret (?) and had three other children Edwarde, William, and Roger(?). A third generation - John Keble born and buried in Wakes Colne c 1560 worked as a servant at Crepping Hall Wakes Colne. The family didn't leave the Wakes Colne area until about 1690 when they moved to Coggeshall. I have some 16th century wills of my ancestors which I have had transcribed that make interesting reading. I would be very interested to hear if any Kebell/Kebel/Keeble names still exist in the area.
I have come across a prior Henry Kebell in Earls Colne in 1394 who challenged Henry IV regarding his position, and would love to find a link into my family, although not holding my breath.
