These steel containers can be found on farmland around Bures. They are currently used as water troughs. The general opinion is they were left behind by the USAAF after the war.
They may have been ammunition storage boxes but this is just a guess.

The top is obviously missing and would have been fixed in place by the multitude of holes in the base.
Any idea what they were used for ?

hi its the bomb sight for bombers to drop there bombs it may be the case it would have been before putting it in the bomber remember menthis bell when he could not see the target. denis

All understood.
I have seen these metal cases around here on two farms - both using them as water troughs for horses.
No markings whatsoever, but they invariably come from the WW2 era

hi thanks trying to get in touch with usaf in usa i will get to the bottom of this i am from bures grandfather i dont think it was for ammo its to small i am trying to find if it was for a delicate itam denis deaves cardiff
