I knew the wattle and daub property opposite the factory at Nayland Road. It was used as a terrace by 50's/ 60's but had originally been one fascinating building.with secrets still to uncover.
The end part belonged to a local squire-type, who used it as a tied cottage for a manservant whose wife was named Ray and daughter Tuppny.
Being unfamiliar with local accents I was flummoxed by some information about the medieval mud plastering. "Zurrnett", they told me. ........Eventually, I worked it out !
Is that now a listed building and is there a photo?.........................
