Muriel Hough Workman

Post by JaneB »

I am trying to find out any information about a cousin of mine Muriel Hough Workman. She was born 19 Sep 1901 in Liverpool but died in Bures 26 Feb 2003 aged 101. Her father was a musician and composer and her uncle Charles Herbert Workman was a celebrated singer with the D'oyly Carte opera performing Gilbert and Sullivan.
Does anyone know anything about her and how she came to be in Bures?

Sorry, I don't know if she was buried or cremated. All I know is she was in a care home when she died.

I have now spoken to the Parish Clerk who deals with the local cemetery
During 2003 she has no record of your cousin being interned there
I have also lived in in excess of 40 years in Bures and never come across the name

Have you a copy of the entry for Bures or can you give me a web site link where I can find it

Hi Alan,
Thanks for trying on my behalf. All I have is the Ancestry web site record with the registered district of Sudbury, date of death Feb 2003 at 101. I think her care home may have been in Cuckoo Lane, also I hoped there might be something in the local paper as she was 101.
Sorry I can't give any more informnation but that is all I have got.

Yes, there was a small private Care Home at the top of Cuckoo Hill. It closed down several years ago.
The cemetery is also located at the bottom of Cuckoo Hill
Odd that she wasn`t interned there, presumably her remains were taken elsewhere
The nearest crematorium would be Colchester, may be in that garden of rest

I will have a word with some WI ladies, to see if they can recall the name

Thanks for that. She was a single lady and no brothers and sisters so probably cremated and no memorial.
