Meggs Family in Bures

Post by fountainsarah »

I am looking for any information on my ancestor William Meggs and his family. I believe he married Elizabeth Halls in 1745 in Bures St Mary and had 5 children: William, Samuel, Jeffery, John and Robert. I am descended through his son John born around 1758 in Bures and married to Elizabeth Taylor in 1782, also in Bures St Mary. They had 2 daughters and 4 sons and apparently moved to Acton where John worked as a blacksmith.

Any information on the Meggs of Bures (or their spouses) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Sarah

Noting that you are looking for any information on the Meggs family in Bures, jogged my memory of my grandfather's recollections of Harry Meggs (who I believe is buried in Bures Cemetery). My grandfather was Stanley Wheeler Deaves, son of the Bures builder Charles Deaves. Also, have you researched the book 'Cobbers' by Dr Thomas Wood? Harry Meggs gets a friendly mention (Chapter 6)!
