Development in Bures.
One of the main qualities of the village is that it has been unspoilt for hundreds of years. I find it very sad when
land and buildings in the heart of the village are turned over to residential development to satisfy the need for housing. The rural heart of the village will be forever changed, either by new housing or the modernisation of existing properties.
Soon there will be nothing left of our rural heritage as planning consent seems to fill in every available plot of land and the
redevelopment of properties as they become vacant.

LAND TO THE REAR OF FRIENDS FIELD

For many years (30+) this plot of land has been used as an apple orchard containing over 1000 mature trees.

Left Photo circa 1985 - orchard to the rear of property in Friends Field.

In 1988 developers applied for planning permission to erect some 40 properties on this land. Objections were made by the residents and the Parish Council.
Babergh District Council subsequently refused this application and it went to Appeal.

EVES ORCHARD

The plot of land along the unmade road to the Telephone Exchange is seeking planning consent for 2 houses and garden.
At the rear of these properties, there is an unofficial footpath which runs between Friends Field and Nayland Road, this will be diverted.

The existing properties consist of two derelict cottages and an apple packing shed.
This was in use many years ago by Dennis Eaves(dec) when he operated a fruit and veg stall from this site.

Another two businesses in the village lost, due to redevelopment.

The garage and "His and Hers" Hairdressers(white annex) ceased trading just before Christmas 2005.

UPDATE March 06 - informal discussions have taken place with the Parish Council about turning this property into retail outlets.
Excellent news for the village.

UPDATE January 07 - site still as the earlier photograph taken January 2006.
