3 Ways Cafe Fire, Bridge Street
November 5th 1965

From 1963 until 1973 it was owned by Harold and June Edwards.
The cause of this disastrous fire was a firework which landed on the roof.
Restoration work was carried out by Pilgrm Builders.

George Warden recalls the Police called to locate the property owner, Mrs Newman.
They were after the key holder, to gain urgent access into the right side of the building.

History of the Cafe
By the late 1940`s the shop was trading as a cafe.

By 1949 it was known as the "Three Ways Cafe"
The cafe continued for a number of years under different ownership.

1950 - 1956 Three Ways cafe owned by Gunston family,


Edward and Margaret Morris moved from London to run the Threeways Cafe in the mid 1950's until sometime in 1962 when they moved to East Mersea.
They had my two sisters Ann and Jenny with them also Charles Atkins an Uncle and also an Uncle Bill and his wife.

There appeared to be some sort of concession for Cornard Knitting Mill staff from the factory, according to one employee.



1973 - unknown

It continued as Cafe until 1992 when it became became Antique Shop, then Olive Tree Furniture, Parquet Flooring Company, David Snaith Surveyor, Graphic Designer, Gift Shop, Lily Rose Hairdresser (2012)and finally in 2013,
"Beautiful You" Hairdresser to the present day.
